The credit crunch squeezing Detroit's Big Three auto makers is now spreading to some of their dealers, adding financial pressure to a group already strained by this year's big drop in auto sales.

Bloomberg gossip/Landov . A buyer visits a amount Heard Chevrolet Texas dealership in 2002. The hottest and most prominent example is amount Heard Enterprises Inc., one of the leading Chevrolet dealers in the country, with 2007 sales of $2.1 billion. prior this month GMAC LLC, the financing guests fairly owned by universal Motors Corp., congested burden trade with amount Heard over concerns about financial harmes allied to the concealedly owned string of 14 supplies, amount Heard definite through a spokesman.

The failing credit profiles of GM, Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC and their finance arms are adding a new challenge for dealers. They typically presented dealers relaxed credit to help them advertise as many cars and trucks as feasible, even if they gave away some of their margin to do so. But now that the car makers and their once-rewarding financing units are racking up harmes and struggling to inflate means themselves, they are receiving tougher on dealers with weak finances. And while GMAC and Chrysler monetary are both controlled by concealed-justness group Cerberus center Management LP, each is now being run to extend profits, not auto sales.

Young Drivers Want Electric Cars

Chrysler 300 hid kit
A survey of British drivers by car insurance company esure highlights that almost three quarters of UK motorists would consider driving an electric car.

The survey also suggests that younger drivers are most receptive to the idea of electric, hybrid or bio-fuel cars; some 81 per cent of under 25s saying they would contemplate driving an electric car.

It is thought that as well as environmental concerns the prospect of cheaper motoring free from rising petrol prices, congestion charges, road taxes is part of the appeal of alternative-fuelled cars for younger motorists.
Mike Pickard, Head of Risk and Underwriting at esure car insurance, said, “With the growing cost of motoring and the pressure of having a greener lifestyle, many motorists are considering alternatives and the electric car is an attractive option. It is very cheap to run and you'll never be stung at the petrol pump again.”

The poll shows that credit crunch is changing motorists' attitudes, with nearly one in 5 thinking about changing their cars for a more efficient model.

The survey revealed that many older drivers would be less receptive to changing their cars for electric or alternatively-fuelled cars.

A regional split is also apparent, some 75% of people in the North West saying they would consider an electric car, compared to just 65% in Scotland.

Pininfarina Hyperion

Car Grills
Rolls-Royce's Drophead CoupĂ© isn't exactly a common sight, but for Roland Hall the standard, £315,000 car isn't quite exclusive enough. Thankfully Pininfarina's Special Projects Division exists, Hall commissioning the firm to design a bespoke one-off machine based on Rolls-Royce's drop-top. The Hyperion is the result and it was unveiled at Pebble Beach, California, this weekend. Among its unique appointments it features a removable Girad-Perregaux timepiece and a space in front of the windscreen to hold two hunting rifles.

The Hyperion is completely re-bodied in carbon fibre, the lines more flowing than the chiselled square-cut lines of the standard car. The shape is meant to evoke the appeal of 1930s cars, Pininfarina even going so far as to create one-off head and tail lamps for the Hyperion. Such detailing is scarily expensive, neither Pininfarina nor owner Hall revealing how much the Hyperion costs. Think in the realm of many millions, the Hyperion's price tag certain to make everything else in this list look rather affordable.

Loeb Seeks to Retain Citroen's Record

Car Grills
Frenchman Sebastien Loeb will be out to score Citroen’s eighth successive win in the Rally of Germany this weekend – the final WRC round before the Repco Rally New Zealand at the end of this month.

The German Rally is run on tarmac roads and usually in unsettled weather (a mix of showers and sunny intervals).

“Following our win in Finland, on the home soil of our main rivals [Ford drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala], we have no intention of letting them strike back on an event that has always been favourable to us,” says Loeb.

“I have tended to enjoy a certain amount of success on the Rallye Deutschland, but it has never been an easy event to win. It has often been a very close run thing.”

Chrysler to Drop Some of it SUV Models

Car Grills
In an interview for Bloomberg, Chrysler’s President Jim Press announced that Chrysler is planning on dropping some of its SUVs, due to some models cometing each others. He said the about half of Chrysler’s current 11 SUV models will be dropped, as Jeep, Chrysler and Dodge will be organized into combined dealerships.

Press said: “We’re going to stop overlapping, we’re going to bring everything under one roof. By doing that we will have more products in the markets we are not covering […] Our finances will have better quality.” Chrysler, which is currently facing serious financial loss (more than $2 billion since the beginning of 2006) gets three quarters of its US sales from pickup trucks, vans and SUVs.

Also, Chrysler’s new owner since last year, Cerberus Capital Management LP announced that, to save money, it will shut the company for two weeks in July, will cut 25,100 jobs and will drop models such as the Pacifica SUV and PT Cruiser convertible.

Chrysler Facelifts the 300C!

Auto Grills
What is it?A facelift of the 300C could have presented Chrysler's designers with a headache. It's such an instantly recognisable car and stands out from the usual sober executive fare that a redesign could have lost what makes this car great. Thankfully, Chrysler has had the good sense to leave the bluff front end unchanged and simply tweak the exterior here and there. The biggest change is moving the third brake light from the rear windscreen to the boot lid and positioning it just under the new small lip spoiler. The aerial is now a 'fin' style item on the roof rather than the previous more normal item. Inside, there are minor changes to the instruments and the centre console now boasts two cupholders. More important is the new soft-touch dash covering that imparts a greater sense of quality and luxury to the 300C's cabin. Chrysler has taken the opportunity of the light restyle to drop the 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, so only the 3.0 V6 turbodiesel and 6.1-litre V8 for the SRT-8 are available. There is one new model, however, in the SRT-Design, which mates the looks of the SRT-8 with the diesel engine.

Chrysler 300C SRT-8 Review

dash kit
The big Chrysler can resist anything except acceleration.  Right. Where were we? Oh yes, in dire need of stoppage. And stop we shall. If a car is only as good as its brakes, Chrysler's flagship muscle car is a match for the very best. Both the SRT-8 and BMW's M5 require only 110 feet of pavement to slow themselves from sixty to zero. While the SRT-8's left pedal doesn't offer much in the way of initial feel, the massive anchors are powerful enough to yank you out of the trouble that the steroidal engine can oh-so-easily put you in. Now, let's try a little cornering…

Before tackling the twisties, switch off the ESP traction control. I don't usually recommend thrashing a Nanny-less sedan with 420ft.-lbs. of torque, 20" wheels and three-season tires (Vivaldi would not be pleased with that concept). But the SRT's chassis is so well sorted, the power resevoir so deep, instant and controllable, that you can drive this monster like you stole it without an electronic safety net– and not die. Simply steer with your right foot.

Muscle car aficionados know the drill. When you enter a sharp turn, throw the wheel hard over and floor it. As the rear tires spin and the back end drifts sideways, apply the appropriate amount of opposite lock with the steering wheel. Then ease off the gas, let the back end ease into line and keep on going. If it's good enough for The General Lee, it's good enough for the SRT.

Of course, Chrysler had to sacrifice a significant measure of the donor car's ride comfort. And? The supremely-engined 300C SRT-8 is aimed at G-force junkies and serious stunters. They'd consider it a badge of honor if a pothole knocked a filling loose. Alternatively, you can dismiss a rough section of road by applying max power and dryquaplaning over irregularities.

I don't mean to leave you with the impression that the Chrysler 300C SRT-8 is all about raw power. It's about raw power AND satellite radio. And a 180mph speedo, sports seats, a fearsome front spoiler, an integrated rear wing and the usual trim upgrades and performance badgery. Other than that, the 300C SRT-8 is the same gangsta-style luxobarge that's wowed press and punters alike.

Which is no bad thing. With the addition of a glorious, pumped-up Hemi and vastly improved driving dynamics, the 300C SRT-8 transforms a great car into an instant (though proletariat) classic. If you're a horsepower headcase on a budget, go on.
