In an interview for Bloomberg, Chrysler’s President Jim Press announced that Chrysler is planning on dropping some of its SUVs, due to some models cometing each others. He said the about half of Chrysler’s current 11 SUV models will be dropped, as Jeep, Chrysler and Dodge will be organized into combined dealerships.
Press said: “We’re going to stop overlapping, we’re going to bring everything under one roof. By doing that we will have more products in the markets we are not covering […] Our finances will have better quality.” Chrysler, which is currently facing serious financial loss (more than $2 billion since the beginning of 2006) gets three quarters of its US sales from pickup trucks, vans and SUVs.
Also, Chrysler’s new owner since last year, Cerberus Capital Management LP announced that, to save money, it will shut the company for two weeks in July, will cut 25,100 jobs and will drop models such as the Pacifica SUV and PT Cruiser convertible.
